Server Details for the Simple Website Editor

Unix/Linux Server

Please make certain that running Perl CGI scripts is enabled for your domain. The setting for enabling CGI scripts if you wish to do it yourself can be found on your Control Panel if you have a Control Panel (Plesk, cPanel, etc).

Note:Some hosting plans may not allow running cgi scripts and you may need to upgrade your hosting account.

Windows Server

IIS administrators are usually shy of Perl because it was developed for Unix type servers. However, it is actually safer to run Perl on an IIS server than on a Unix/Apache server. IIS has built-in controls that prohibit any domain process from entering the path of another domain. Therefore, it is safe, and necessary, for the permissions on the domain's root folder to be set with WRITE, MODIFY, and EXECUTE permissions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are trying to install a CGI based program at http://myDomain/editor. If the testing of the CGI script is not correctly executing, the program's tech has suggested that WRITE, MODIFY, and EXECUTE permissionsmay need to be set for the domain's root folder per these screenshots:

http://gphrs.com/IIS_setup.gif
http://gphrs.com/IIS_setup2.gif

If you would you please make any changes to the server configuration so that the two following test scripts to execute correctly:

http://myDomain.com/editor/env.pl
http://myDomain.com/editor/env.cgi

This is exclusive to Windows servers (no permission changes allowed by FTP), and the env.pl & env.cgi need to be installed in the /editor folder on the domain and be sure to change "myDomain" in the paragraph to the domain we're working on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If the two gifs do not have settings for scripts, Perl has never been installed on the server and will need to be installeed from http://activestate.com. The activestate install is just like any other Windows install of a program (easy).

The Simple Website Editor runs at the DOS level, folder and file names ARE case sensitive. "Editor" and "editor" are not the same.
