Website Hacking and Computer Tracking

Mar-6th-2010

I just want give you a heads up on the Hacking of Websites and your computer.  Recently I had a client whose website I had built get hacked into.  Luckily I have it backed up and was able to restore it without issue.  We changed all of their passwords both for their website as well as their emails.  The password was changed to a 10 digit mix of letters, caps, numbers and *,#! to make it highly secure.  If you’re not doing this, I highly recommend that you do.

I also recommended that they purchase a program called Spy Doctor which can go through their computer and get rid of any tracker programs that may have been downloaded into their computer while surfing the net.  And that they purchase a window washer either by web root or tracks eraser pro to erase and clean their cache in their computer to help prevent this from happening again in the future.  Whether you have a website or not, it is fairly easy for these jerks to try to capture your information including credit cards when you do online shopping.

Feb-15th-2010

When using our editor, it is simple for you to be able to go in and add a Paypal shopping cart button.  All you need to do is set up a Paypal account >go to merchants set up your shopping cart>then “create button”> copy the code to your web page.

It does help if you have some HTML code knowledge but even if you don’t, there is a video on how to add a shopping cart button to your web site.

Plus, you can include an image using a table so that the images on top and then you put the shopping cart button right below it.

This can also be used if you are using another shopping cart  i.e. Mals Ecommerce that uses a shopping cart HTML code to download onto a page.

Tables: Uploading a Photo with Text Next To It

Nov-22nd-2009

Most website pages at some time or another will have a photo with text to the right or left of it.  To do it is not as easy as adding a photo and then putting the text next to it.  You need to put them into a table so it will look proper on the page.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Add a table on the page with two columns (cells) – If you are using the Simple Website Editor, just go to the table widget in the toolbar
  2. Make your table the size you want it, i.e 75%, 80%, 100% to the page
  3. Does it need to be centered to the page?  If so, center it.
  4. Next, make sure to size your picture before adding it the column you want it to be in – If using the Simple Website Editor, just login to the online html editor and use the Image Widget
  5. Next is your text  – I recommend that you first draft your text in a text editor before putting it into the table.
  6. Paste your text into the column, adjust the image and text so it balances on the page and you are done.

If you are using the Simple Website Editor this is an easy function, plus, we include a great short video with this online wysiwyg editor on how to add a table to a webpage.

Making Text Changes To Your Website

Nov-19th-2009

Making changes to your website can be intimidating, especially if you are concerned that you will mess up the professional look of your website.

It’s actually a lot easier than you think.   To get started make sure that you know what you want to do with your website or a specific webpage.  Put it down on paper or in any text editor so you can easily copy it into your webpage.   Format it exactly how you want to look, this way you can tweak it if it doesn’t look quite right.

Be careful when using MSWord to write your draft text in.  It has a habit of adding hidden code behind the text when you copy and paste it into your webpage which can cause issues when you are trying to format the text.  To avoid this from possibly happening with your website editor, whether it be a online WYSIWYG editor like ours, or a pc based program, just use your Notepad Text Editor found in “Accessories” program files (PCs).

Next consider the font size. If you are using the Simple Website Editor, it will automatically keep the standard font that your webpage is set to.  If you are planning on highlighting or enlarging your text wait till you have pasted it to your webpage, then do whatever you need to do to make it stand out.  We include great how to videos on doing this using the Simple Website Editor so you can make these changes from anywhere with our online html editor.

If it’s just simple text changes, just put it where it needs to go, preview it using the Simple Website Editor preview widget, and if it looks right click save.  Remember, whenever you are making changes to your webpage that you always check the backup box so it will do a backup of the page just in case you need to revert back to it.

That’s it, your website text is updated.

Text Rules:  As a marketing colleague once told me, it is a good idea to try to stay with two different font sizes and or styles to a webpage or marketing piece.  By having too many it can be a distraction to the message you are trying to convey.
