Making Text Changes To Your Website

Nov-19th-2009

Making changes to your website can be intimidating, especially if you are concerned that you will mess up the professional look of your website.

It’s actually a lot easier than you think.   To get started make sure that you know what you want to do with your website or a specific webpage.  Put it down on paper or in any text editor so you can easily copy it into your webpage.   Format it exactly how you want to look, this way you can tweak it if it doesn’t look quite right.

Be careful when using MSWord to write your draft text in.  It has a habit of adding hidden code behind the text when you copy and paste it into your webpage which can cause issues when you are trying to format the text.  To avoid this from possibly happening with your website editor, whether it be a online WYSIWYG editor like ours, or a pc based program, just use your Notepad Text Editor found in “Accessories” program files (PCs).

Next consider the font size. If you are using the Simple Website Editor, it will automatically keep the standard font that your webpage is set to.  If you are planning on highlighting or enlarging your text wait till you have pasted it to your webpage, then do whatever you need to do to make it stand out.  We include great how to videos on doing this using the Simple Website Editor so you can make these changes from anywhere with our online html editor.

If it’s just simple text changes, just put it where it needs to go, preview it using the Simple Website Editor preview widget, and if it looks right click save.  Remember, whenever you are making changes to your webpage that you always check the backup box so it will do a backup of the page just in case you need to revert back to it.

That’s it, your website text is updated.

Text Rules:  As a marketing colleague once told me, it is a good idea to try to stay with two different font sizes and or styles to a webpage or marketing piece.  By having too many it can be a distraction to the message you are trying to convey.
